How to clean your crane humidifier guide

Common Questions for Drop and Adorable Vaporiser/Humidifiers

In this guidance humidifier and vaporiser are used interchangeably. This category of products are generally called ultrasonic vaporisers in New Zealand and Australia, but are called humidifiers in the US.

How do I start my Humidifier?

First make sure the tank is filled with water, and then turn the control dial all the way up to activate the mist. Then adjust the dial down to the preferred level of mist output.

What noise level can I expect from my Humidifier?

Crane prides itself on making whisper quiet products - despite some of the loud, fun designs. The humidifier’s fan whirrs quietly as it disperses a cool mist into your room, adding moisture to the air.

Where should I put my Humidifier? I want to show it off.

Show it off to your heart’s content. But whether you decide to put your humidifier front and centre or be more discreet, it should never be on a water-sensitive surface or on a carpet or towel, to avoid damage to the humidifier and your home. Instead, place it on a flat, water-safe surface at least three feet off the ground for maximum evaporation.

Why is there condensation on the windows?

Your humidifier is working a little too hard. Select a lighter mist setting to lower the room’s humidity and, as always, keep the door open a crack. You still get the humidifier’s benefits, but with crystal clear windows.

What can I put in my humidifier?

Water only, or Crane's own humidifier aromatherapy blend, but not anything else please as it may actually cause damage, and no one wants that.

Can I use Essential Oils with my Crane Vaporiser?

It is the cool mist produced by the Crane Vaporisers that can make breathing easier by adding moisture to the air. Using oils is not required for the Crane humidifier to be used for dry coughs, congestion, colds and dry, scratchy throats. It is not recommended to add oils to the tank as over time oils will degrade the plastic and interfere with the operation of the ultrasonic membrane. For this reason we recommend that oils NOT be used with Crane humidifiers. A glass or ceramic diffuser is more suited for use with oils.

What’s the Best Way to Clean my Humidifier?
It’s simple. Regular cleaning will keep your humidifier running smoother for longer. We highly recommend emptying the water tank and basin after each use and disinfecting them at least once a week with water and a few capfuls of white vinegar. Please check the Manual for further instructions.

Do I need a Filter to run my Humidifier?
Nope. We’re all about simple, clean design, so our humidifiers work perfectly without a filter. In some cases, such as when using bore water, you could notice a fine white dust collecting near your humidifier. If so you can switch to distilled water to lower the dust-building mineral content or use Crane Demineralization Filters, which remove excess minerals, reducing the white dust so your air (and your home) stays clean.

How is an ultrasonic humidifier different to a “regular” humidifier?

An ultrasonic humidifier works similarly to a stereo speaker while staying whisper quiet. A nebulizer vibrates at an ultrasonic frequency to create mist that easily dissipates into the air rather than droplets that fall to the ground.

I think my humidifier is leaking

Because our humidifiers are built for all different environments, it’s possible that the setting is simply too high for your space. Try adjusting the setting so you can see the mist going up into the air, not down onto the surface. If that doesn’t work, be sure the rubber ring inside the water tank is secure. And if you move your humidifier often, always have a towel on hand and move the tank and basin separately.

There is something loose in the bottom of my humidifier

Sometimes during shipping, the water level sensor float and cap may detach from the humidifier base. This can be fixed very simply! The water level sensor float looks like a large white washer and the cap looks like a small plastic lid with a paperclip going through the top of it. Just place the water level sensor float onto the tall, then peg towards the left side of the humidifier base. The cap can then be snapped in place atop that same peg.

My humidifier isn't misting as much as usual

First thing first—empty some water from the water basin. Too much water may prevent the humidifier from misting properly. And while you’re checking the water basin, make sure there aren’t any foreign objects in it. If the humidifier is not on a flat, waterproof service, it’s possible that fibres from a carpet or towel have blocked the vent. If all else fails, check your Use & Care Manual or contact Customer Service.

Are your Humidifiers made from plastic that may contain BPA or Phthalate?

All of our humidifiers are made with the following plastics: ABS, SAN, and PP. The chemicals Bishenol A and Phthalate are not used in the manufacturing process.

How should I store my Humidifier when I am not using it?

Clean and dry the humidifier completely, then remove the water tank cap and your Demineralization Filter, if you use one. For detailed instructions, see your user manual (available from the model's product page).

I am replacing my humidifier with a new one. How should I dispose of the old one?

The tank and the mist lid are 100% plastic and can be recycled in a regular plastic recycling stream. The humidifier base has electrical components and should be dropped off at an E-Waste recycling centre.
